Cameroon Cocoa Prices Fall Short of Expectations in 2025–2026 Season

With four months left before the end of the 2025–2026 cocoa season, farmgate prices in Cameroon remain below CFA1,500 per kilogram, pointing to the weakest performance in three seasons.

The current campaign, which is expected to end on July 15, has so far failed to replicate the price surge seen in previous years. According to data from the Commodity Information System (SIF), cocoa beans were trading between CFA1,300 and CFA1,450 per kilogram in production areas as of April 13, 2026.

These levels are significantly lower than the highs recorded in recent seasons. Producers earned up to CFA5,400 per kilogram during the previous campaign, while prices reached as high as CFA6,000 per kilogram in the 2023–2024 season.

At the start of the current season, authorities had projected farmgate prices between CFA3,200 and CFA5,400 per kilogram, based on the strong upward trend observed over the past two years. However, market conditions have since shifted, and those expectations have not materialized.

Analysts attribute the gap between projections and actual prices to a changing global outlook. According to the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO), global production is expected to increase, extending the recovery in supply that began in the 2024–2025 season after three consecutive years of deficits.

This anticipated surplus is likely to continue weighing on cocoa prices throughout the season, both on international markets and in producing countries such as Cameroon, analysts say.
