highlighting a particular profession. During this meeting, a resource person talks about the context of the establishment of the job of the day, its evolution and possible future development. He or she also presents the job, the daily routine and the qualities required. Emphasis is placed on the prerequisites and training required. Advocatus, ‘called to’, originally referred to someone who stood by another person to defend them. From the earliest judicial organisations in ancient Greece, orators lent their voices to citizens. This role also became established in ancient Rome, where advocati helped to structure the practice of law and give shape to organised defence. Throughout various major periods of history, the profession has consolidated, particularly with the rise of universities and the birth of bar associations. It has been challenged, abolished, and reinstated, but has never ceased to reinvent itself.
