In the spotlight…. Sustainable Energy Engineer
In 1970, faced with the first oil crisis and the realisation of the limitations of fossil fuels, the need for alternative energy sources became urgent. Governments, researchers and engineers began to explore alternative energy sources: sun, wind, water and biomass. From 1980 to 1990, pilot projects were launched. With only modest support from public policy, they struggled to take off due to high costs and a lack of infrastructure. However, growing environmental concerns placed renewable energies at the heart of the energy transition strategy. This led to the emergence of the Sustainable Energy Engineer profession as a response, with the aim of designing, optimising and implementing clean technologies. Passionate about the development of renewable energies, Bolivie Wakam provides us with an informed perspective on the challenges and opportunities of this promising profession.
