(Business in Cameroon) – The Cameroon Petroleum Depots Company (SCDP) has canceled a public tender worth CFA2.7 billion for the construction of a 250-ton liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage tank at its depot in Ngaoundéré, located in the Adamawa region.
SCDP Director General Véronique Manzoua, née Moampea Mbio, issued the cancellation on April 24, citing a technical malfunction at the Public Contracts Regulatory Agency (ARMP). The glitch caused a delay in the official publication of the tender notice, which should have been posted on ARMP’s platform as required by regulation.
“The national open tender procedure launched on April 7, 2025, for the supply of equipment and construction works under EPCCS terms (Engineering, Procurement, Commissioning, Construction and Startup) for the 250-ton LPG tank at the SCDP Ngaoundéré depot is hereby canceled,” the decision read.
The project was initially estimated at CFA2.7 billion and was part of SCDP’s public investment plan for the 2025 fiscal year. The funding was structured over two years, with CFA1.5 billion planned for 2025 and CFA1.1 billion for 2026. The work was expected to take 12 months to complete.
The ARMP has not commented directly on the issue. When contacted by Investir au Cameroun, a representative redirected inquiries to SCDP’s internal procurement committee. The company itself declined to provide further details.
Despite the setback, SCDP is still pursuing other infrastructure upgrades. It plans to build a 1,000-ton LPG sphere at its Bonabéri depot in Douala and is also working on a 5,000 m³ diesel tank in Bélabo (East region), which will boost that depot’s current diesel storage capacity by over 60%. In addition, one of the diesel tanks will be repurposed to add 1,000 m³ of gasoline storage.
“These two projects are part of SCDP’s response to the surging demand for petroleum products in the region, largely driven by expanding mining activity,” said Director General Manzoua.
