(Business in Cameroon) – The Northwest Regional Assembly is developing four electricity projects requiring a total investment of 9.4 billion CFA francs. These projects include two hydroelectric dams, one solar power plant, and one modular Powerloop unit.
Specifically, the region plans to build a small hydroelectric facility at the Abi Falls. This project, estimated at 2.5 billion CFA francs, has an internal rate of return of 14%, ensuring a stable investment and sustainable electricity production.
Another hydroelectric installation is under consideration on the Menchum River, valued at 4.6 billion CFA francs with a 16% internal rate of return. This project represents a significant initiative in the region’s hydroelectric sector.
For solar energy, regional authorities aim to establish a network of 10 mini plants. This project expects a quick return on investment, with a projected internal rate of return between 18% and 22%. Additionally, the acquisition of a modular Powerloop unit is estimated at 1.5 billion CFA francs.
To secure funding, the Regional Assembly recently hosted a North West Economic Forum in Bamenda, convening investors. Overall, projects worth 47 billion CFA francs were presented, primarily focused on infrastructure development in the region.
