(Business in Cameroon) – Cameroon’s Minister of Fisheries, Livestock, and Animal Industries, Dr. Taïga, officially launched the Project for the Promotion of the Continental Fish Farming Sector (Profip) on 25 July 2025 in Yaoundé. Japan finances the project with CFA1.2 billion to promote fish farming development in Cameroon.
The funds will pay for expert services running over five years. Minister Taïga said Profip forms part of the implementation of the Integrated Fisheries and Agropastoral Import-Substitution Plan (PIISAH), currently underway in Cameroon.
According to the Ministry of Livestock, Cameroon faces a yearly deficit exceeding 476,000 tonnes of fish products. This shortfall forces the country to rely heavily on fish imports. Alongside rice, fish ranks among Cameroon’s top imported foodstuffs, substantially increasing the nation’s trade deficit.
