IsDB to Fund Key 145 km Road Project in Cameroon, Boosting Regional Connectivity

(Business in Cameroon) – A delegation of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is currently in Cameroon to advance plans for financing the construction of a 145-kilometer section of the Ngatt-Febadi-Likok road within the Batchenga-Ngaoundéré corridor. The Ministry of Public Works made the announcement on July 8.

Led by Alagi Basiru Gaye, the IsDB mission aims to finalize funding preparations for presentation to the IsDB Board of Directors in September. This initiative is crucial to enhancing regional connectivity and economic development, linking the Center and Adamaoua regions and completing National Highway 15.

Divided into two main segments—Ngatt-Febadi-Mambal-Tekel (68.4 km) and Tekel-Lewa-Louga-Likok (76.2 km)—the Ngatt-Febadi-Likok road project is integral to Transport Sector Support Program I. The IsDB plans to finance 80.90% of the project, around 108.314 billion FCFA, with the Cameroonian government contributing 12.171 billion FCFA (10.10%).

Accompanying the IsDB delegation are experts in environmental and social guarantees, youth empowerment, project financial management, and local IDB representatives in Cameroon. The mission, building on the IsDB’s previous co-financing of the Lena-Sengbe-Tibati section, includes rigorous planning and efficient project implementation through government consultations and site visits.

In addition to finalizing funding for the Ngatt-Febadi-Likok road, the IsDB mission, ongoing until July 13, is also exploring financing opportunities for new projects from 2025 to 2027, including the reconstruction of Douala-Bafoussam and Douala-Yaoundé roads and the construction of the Bafang-Nkondjock road.
