German Business Delegation to Explore Investment Opportunities in Cameroon

(Business in Cameroon) – A German business delegation will visit Cameroon on November 25-26, 2024, as part of a mission focused on exploring investment opportunities and promoting the transfer of sustainable technologies. The event, set to take place in Yaoundé, is being organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Germany, in collaboration with the Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Crafts (CCIMA) and the Cameroon Business Group (GECAM).

The mission aims to strengthen economic ties between Cameroon and Germany, with a focus on forging new business partnerships and exploring investment opportunities. It will target key sectors, including agro-industry, infrastructure (water, energy, waste management), import-export, banking, pharmaceuticals, construction, mining, renewable energy, biogas, livestock, and services.

Local SMEs will have the opportunity to meet with German companies through planned B2B meetings. These discussions are expected to boost innovation, economic growth, and job creation in critical sectors.

Germany remains a significant trading partner for Cameroon, ranking as the third-largest supplier in the European Union with an 11.6% share of Cameroon’s imports in 2023. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the value of German imports to Cameroon rose from CFA 148.3 billion in 2022 to CFA 153.1 billion in 2023, an increase of 11.7%. Major imports include mechanical machines (21.7%), vehicles (14.9%), and wheat (9.4%).

However, Germany’s position as a customer for Cameroonian exports is modest, accounting for just 5.2% of the market share in 2023. The upcoming forum could help reverse this trend by encouraging more balanced trade between the two countries.
