Cemac growth outlook cut to 2.6% in 2025 on oil and gas decline

(Business in Cameroon) – The economy of the Cemac region is expected to grow by 2.6% in 2025, according to the latest forecast released on September 29 by the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). The figure marks a slight decline from 2.7% in 2024.

The central bank attributed the slowdown to a sharper contraction in oil and gas production, despite steady performance in non-oil sectors. Oil and gas output is projected to shrink by 1.5% in 2025, after a 0.4% drop in 2024. Meanwhile, non-oil activities are forecast to expand by 3.2%, compared with 3.3% in 2024.

The new projection is more positive than BEAC’s June 2025 forecast of 2.4% but falls short of the 2.9% growth projected earlier in the year.
