CEMAC Central Bank Sees Inflation Dropping Below 3% in 2025

(Business in Cameroon) – The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) expects inflation in the CEMAC (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, and Central African Republic) region to fall below 3% by the end of 2025. This outlook follows the bank’s second Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting of the year, held on June 30 in Yaoundé.

BEAC now forecasts the annual inflation rate will drop to 2.8% in December 2025, improving from the 2.9% projection made in March. This rate sits comfortably below the 3% ceiling accepted in CEMAC. Inflation in the region peaked at 4.1% in 2024.

BEAC Governor Yvon Sana Bangui said the decline in inflation stems from early results of import-substitution policies rolled out in several CEMAC countries. These measures aim to reduce massive imports, which account for 80% of inflationary pressures.

The governor also praised government efforts to control prices in markets. He highlighted Cameroon’s Ministry of Commerce for cracking down on speculative practices among traders.
