Cameroon’s Wood Industry Faces Rising Costs, Up 13% by Q3 2024

(Business in Cameroon) – Production costs in Cameroon’s wood industry climbed 13% by the end of September 2024, continuing a steady rise that began in early 2021. This data comes from the Industrial Producer Price Index (IPPI), released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The report highlights a consistent upward trend in production costs for the wood sector over the past three years. Although the reasons behind this increase were not detailed, the INS noted that higher costs in the wood industry have impacted overall industrial production costs in Cameroon.

Across the first nine months of 2024, industrial production costs in the country rose by 5.7% year-over-year, largely influenced by the wood sector and the extractive industry.
