(Business in Cameroon) – Cameroon produced a total of 36,701 tons of natural rubber in 2024, according to Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute. He shared this figure on December 1, during his presentation of the government’s 2025 economic, financial, social, and cultural program to the National Assembly. This marks a decline compared to previous years.
Data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) shows that Cameroon exported 43,263 tons of raw rubber in 2023, down from 47,758 tons in 2022. The drop in production reported by the Prime Minister reflects a slowdown in the rubber sector, which includes companies like the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), Sud Cameroun Hévéa, Hévécam, Safacam, and Socapalm.
Despite this decline, rubber remains one of Cameroon’s key export products. In the third quarter of 2024, rubber, alongside cocoa and its derivatives as well as bananas, played a significant role in supporting the country’s exports. Customs data reveals that 16,839 tons of rubber were sold internationally during this period, a 34% year-on-year increase. These exports generated CFA13.9 billion in revenue, a 63% increase compared to the previous year.
Rubber continues to be a major symbol of Cameroon’s presence in international markets. According to the Competitiveness Committee, a specialized body under the Ministry of Economy, Cameroon ranked as the 8th largest exporter of fresh rubber latex globally in 2023.
