Cameroon’s Honey Production Drops to 4,672 Tons in 2024

(Business in Cameroon) – Cameroon’s honey production fell significantly in 2024, reaching just 4,672 tons, according to data presented by the Prime Minister on December 1, 2024, during the unveiling of the government’s economic, financial, social, and cultural program for 2025. This marks a sharp decline compared to the 7,800 tons produced in 2022, as the Ministry of Agriculture reported in its review of the country’s agropastoral activities.

The Adamawa region accounts for 70% of the country’s honey production, according to officials from the Livestock Development Project (Prodel), funded by the World Bank. Despite the active efforts of beekeepers in this region, the most renowned and sought-after honey in Cameroon comes from the Northwest region.

This includes Oku white honey, one of the first Cameroonian products to receive a certification from the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI), along with Penja pepper. These certifications have significantly increased their value on both domestic and international markets.
