(Business in Cameroon) – Ground freight prices in Cameroon have increased by 8 to 9% this year, according to a report on the competitiveness of Cameroon’s economy in 2023, published by the Competitiveness Committee of the Ministry of Economy. This rise is mainly due to higher pump fuel prices.
The report highlights that fuel accounts for over 37% of the cost of transporting goods by ground freight. Tires follow closely behind, representing 18.9% of the transportation cost, with their durability dependent on road quality.
This think tank within the Ministry of Economy notes that the rise in ground freight costs in 2023 has negatively affected the competitiveness of Cameroon’s corridors. “Higher freight costs impact the procurement expenses of businesses. This upward trend in costs is likely to raise their production expenses,” the Competitiveness Committee reports.
