Cameroon: Kribi to Host $24 Mln Tourism Complex with Hotel, Golf Course

  • (Business in Cameroon) – 15 bln CFA franc project led by senator Grégoire Mba Mba now under construction.
  • Development to include hotel, golf course, sports facilities and children’s attractions.
  • Funding combines personal investment, municipal support and capital raised from private investors.

Kribi, the coastal city in southern Cameroon, should soon house a major tourism complex. The project, valued at 15 billion CFA francs ($24 million), aims to boost the region’s economy and attract international visitors. Construction began on July 2, according to sources close to the matter.

Spearheaded by Senator and businessman Grégoire Mba Mba, the project is taking shape on a 50-hectare site in Bissiang, about 10 km from downtown Kribi. Development plans include an 18-hole golf course, hotel, tennis and handball courts, and a children’s amusement area with rides and slides.

Construction will proceed in two phases: the hotel is expected to take about two years, followed by the remaining facilities.

Funding for the project relies on a mixed model combining Mba Mba’s personal funds, contributions from the Kribi municipality and capital raised from both domestic and international investors. Project shares have been opened to the public.

On June 28, Spanish ambassador Ignacio Rafael Garcia Lumbreras visited the site and praised its economic potential, particularly the golf course’s ability to drive local GDP. “We want to support projects that generate well-being,” he told state broadcaster CRTV.

Kribi’s mayor, Guy Emmanuel Sabikanda, described the project as a key pillar in the city’s urban and economic transformation. The port city already hosts a major industrial complex and aims to become a regional hub for tourism.

Officials said the project is expected to create about 300 jobs during construction, with 25% reserved for residents living near the site.
