(Business in Cameroon) – Cameroon’s Ministry of Finance has extended the payment deadline for the new Synthetic General Tax (IGS) by one month. Initially set for April 15, the new deadline is now May 15, 2025, according to a notice signed on May 5 by Finance Minister Louis Paul Motazé.
The minister thanked taxpayers who have already paid and encouraged those who have not yet done so to take advantage of the extra time to settle their tax obligations. He also announced that support measures are in place to help users complete the payment process more easily.
The IGS is the centerpiece of Cameroon’s new local taxation law, signed by the president on March 23, 2024, following parliamentary approval. It applies to businesses with annual revenue below CFA50 million and replaces both the liberatory tax and the simplified taxation regime that were previously in use.
This new approach is designed to simplify the local tax system while expanding revenue collection from small and micro-enterprises. According to the government’s estimates, the IGS is expected to generate an additional CFA50 billion each year for decentralized local governments.
