BDEAC’s Net Profit Dip for Fifth Straight Year to CFAF3.3B in 2024

(Business in Cameroon) – Shareholders of the Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) approved a net profit of 3.3 billion CFA francs for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, during a meeting held on June 2, 2025, in Douala and via videoconference. This figure represents a 500 million CFA franc decrease compared to the previous year, according to the development bank’s financial statements.

A review of BDEAC’s financial data indicates a consistent decline in the bank’s profits over at least the past five years. Its net income has fallen steadily, from 15.24 billion CFA francs in 2019 to 9.2 billion in 2020, then to 5.7 billion in 2021, and 5.1 billion in 2022. This trend continued into 2023, where net income was 3.8 billion CFA francs, before reaching the 3.3 billion reported for 2024, as confirmed by official sources.

BDEAC was established to support the development initiatives of Central African states. Since commencing operations in 1977, the sub-regional financial institution reports having approved a total financing volume of 2,378.4 billion CFA francs, encompassing projects, studies, and equity investments.

“It should be noted that in recent years, funding requests submitted to BDEAC by economic operators have become increasingly substantial, requiring greater resources,” read an official statement issued after the June 2 general meeting. “That’s why it became urgent to strengthen the bank’s financial capacity so it can fully play its role. To this end, the general assembly called on shareholders to fulfill all the commitments adopted during the general assembly of January 3, 2025.
