(Business in Cameroon) – Cameroon’s Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR) discussed a budget adjustment at its board meeting in Yaoundé on June 20. The adjustment aims to better equip the agency to fulfill its mandate. While ANOR has not officially revealed its current budget or the precise increase, Georges Mendounga, a board member representing the Ministry of Finance, stated the budget would be raised to 14 billion CFA francs. Another ANOR official, however, indicated that the 2025 budget is projected to reach 15.2 billion CFA francs.
In 2024, ANOR had already increased its annual budget to 13.2 billion CFA francs. That previous increase primarily focused on improving internet access and acquiring office equipment.
Expanded Duties
Mohammadou Bayero Fadil, chairman of the board, justified the 2025 budget increase by citing “new responsibilities entrusted to ANOR by the President of the Republic.” He added that these responsibilities require additional resources to enhance product quality control in the market and strengthen the agency’s evaluation and compliance system.
A presidential decree issued in March 2019 reorganized ANOR and assigned the agency quality control duties for market products. This role was previously managed solely by the Ministry of Commerce.
