Cameroon imported CFA333.7 billion worth of fuels and lubricants between January and June 2025, totaling 899 million tons to supply the domestic market, the Ministry of Finance (Minfi) said in its economic outlook note. Over the same period in 2024, imports amounted to CFA453 billion for 804.6 million tons. This marks a 26.3% decline in value, or CFA119 billion, despite an increase in imported volumes.
The country has been fully dependent on fuel imports since the fire at its only refinery. Within this context, the report also records exports of fuels and lubricants. Cameroon exported CFA14 billion in the first half of 2025, representing 28 million tons, compared with CFA17 billion and 37.4 million tons a year earlier, a 17.6% drop in value. These volumes may reflect products that were imported and then re-exported to other regional markets.
Over the same period, year on year, consumption of white petroleum products increased by 4.0%, driven by higher use across all sub-products. In contrast, consumption of fuel oil 180 fell by 20.5%.
