(Business in Cameroon) – Stakeholders in the renovation and expansion of Douala International Airport have entered the final stretch before construction begins, with meetings in the economic capital to validate the Detailed Preliminary Design of the project. The review sessions, led by Emmanuel Sime Lebou, Project Manager and Technical Adviser No. 3 at Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC SA), bring together the project’s technical and financial partners, including the French Development Agency (AFD). Their discussions focus on finalising the technical, architectural and operational options for the modernisation of the passenger terminal, ahead of the official green light for construction.
According to Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC SA), the project, first announced in 2018, is valued at around FCFA 66 billion (approximately US$120 million). The plan aims to overhaul and extend the airport’s passenger terminal to meet international standards and improve passenger comfort, efficiency and safety.
The public presentation of the project was scheduled for Wednesday, 12 November 2025, alongside a session of the ADC SA Board of Directors in Douala. Officials say this milestone will mark the transition from planning to implementation.
Part of the financing and technical assistance is linked to the Transport Sector Development Project (TSDP) – Aviation Component, supported by the World Bank and the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA). According to the CCAA, this complementary initiative has already channelled about FCFA 30.4 billion towards improving security and operational infrastructure at the Douala airport. As reported by Africa Eye in July 2025, the Douala upgrade project is expected to “significantly enhance capacity, streamline passenger flow, and boost Cameroon’s air transport competitiveness.”
