(Business in Cameroon) – The Bank of Central African States (BEAC), the monetary authority for the six CEMAC countries (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, and the Central African Republic), has once again set a record by raising its weekly liquidity injection to commercial banks to CFA750 billion. The operation took place on October 14, 2025.
According to the results, banks’ demand surpassed the new offer, reaching CFA786 billion. In the previous operation on October 7, demand had already hit CFA817 billion.
The growing appetite of banks for central bank liquidity reflects strong credit activity in the CEMAC region during the back-to-school period, which typically drives demand for education-related loans.
Bankers note that refinancing at the BEAC window usually occurs when credit demand from economic agents exceeds commercial banks’ available funds. In response, BEAC has progressively increased its liquidity offers from CFA200 billion to the current CFA750 billion.
