(Business in Cameroon) – An agreement between Cameroon’s National Institute of Statistics (NIS) and the Adaptive Social Safety Nets and Economic Inclusion Project (PFS-AIE) has established the framework for a 3.78 billion FCFA financial package. This new funding is dedicated to supporting an additional 10,500 vulnerable households in their fight against chronic poverty and aims to improve their overall economic resilience.
Under the program’s terms, each selected family will receive a payment of 20,000 FCFA every two months over a two-year period. This regular assistance will be supplemented by two larger transfers of 80,000 FCFA each, disbursed at the 12th and 24th months, bringing the total support per household to 360,000 FCFA. The NIS will conduct detailed surveys to ensure the targeting process is transparent and fair.
This initiative is a component of the larger Adaptive Safety Nets and Economic Inclusion Project (PFS-AIE), which runs from 2023 to 2028. The broader project is backed by 92.752 billion FCFA from the World Bank and a 54 billion FCFA contribution from the Cameroonian government, targeting a total of 356,000 families nationwide.
Aligning with Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2030, the government views this project as a tool for sustainable transformation. Since its inception in 2013, the Social Safety Nets Project has grown significantly and has already demonstrated measurable success in improving food security and productivity for hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries.
