Cameroon’s ST Digital Ranks Among Africa’s Leading Digital Investors, Says UNCTAD

(Business in Cameroon) – ST Digital, a Cameroonian IT services company led by Anthony Same, ranks among the most dynamic digital firms investing in Africa over the past five years. This is according to the 2025 Investment Report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which focuses on “international investment in the digital economy.

The UNCTAD report states that between 2020 and 2024, 16 companies announced investments in data centers in Least Developed Countries (LDCs). These investments focused on small-scale projects, worth a total of $12.6 billion, and mid-sized projects, worth $2.5 billion, in middle-income countries such as Malaysia, Mexico, and Nigeria. Notable investors included Djibouti Data Center (Djibouti), Econet Global (Mauritius), Hiranandani Developers (India), Paratus Africa Group (Namibia), and ST Digital (Cameroon).

The UN body particularly highlights a major project by ST Digital in Togo. The report notes that in Togo, project announcements totaled $316 million, driven by a $246 million digital economy project spearheaded by ST Digital. The 2020 to 2024 period covered in the report aligns with the launch of Africa’s first fully homegrown cloud services platform by ST Digital on December 5, 2023.

Sovereign Data Management and Expansion

Named Cloud Store Africa, the platform is based in Cameroon and operated by Cameroonians. It offers services such as web hosting, virtual servers, domain names, and email accounts. All services are hosted on servers located in Cameroon “without sacrificing the comfort and performance of solutions from major software providers,” according to ST Digital. In addition to offering “extremely affordable pricing,” Anthony Same presents Cloud Store Africa as a direct response to the issue of data sovereignty in Africa.

Beyond this 100% African cloud platform, which is now available in Central and West Africa, ST Digital deployed two data centers between 2020 and 2024, one in Cameroon and another in Côte d’Ivoire. In February 2025, the firm announced it had acquired a site in the Nkok Special Economic Zone (GSEZ), located 27 kilometers from Libreville. This site will house ST Digital’s data center in Gabon. The Togo facility is expected to be operational in 2025, according to the specialized platform DatacenterDynamics.

Founded in April 2017, ST Digital is now active in seven African countries: Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The company offers a wide range of digital solutions, from cloud and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity, application development, digital transformation consulting and integration, and training.
