(Business in Cameroon) – Cameroon’s telecom regulator ART collected CFA73.4 billion in fees from sector operators in 2024. The agency announced the results following its board meeting held on June 18.
This amount reflects ART’s total revenue for the year, generated through the billing of fees, contributions, and charges imposed on telecom operators. These collections are carried out in line with Cameroon’s legal framework, particularly the telecommunications law of July 1998 and additional regulations issued jointly by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
The regulator also holds treasury powers, allowing it to recover unpaid fees from operators when necessary.
The taxes and fees collected by ART fund its core responsibilities, which include regulating, monitoring, and supporting the growth of the telecom sector. These revenues cover a wide range of activities, such as license issuance, operating authorizations, renewals, penalties, frequency usage, and infrastructure fees. Additional charges apply for specific technical services provided by ART.
The agency also reported a financial position showing total assets and liabilities of CFA346 billion and a net profit of CFA12 billion. ART posted a budget surplus of approximately CFA14 billion for the year.
Looking ahead, ART’s 2025 budget was approved last December at CFA73 billion. According to the board of directors, this figure includes CFA43 billion earmarked for the public treasury, the special telecommunications fund, and other beneficiary entities.
