Afriland First Bank Leads Cameroon’s Lending Market in 2024


(Business in Cameroon) – Afriland First Bank has strengthened its position as the leading financial institution in Cameroon. As of December 31, 2024, the bank had CFA1,382 billion in outstanding loans, representing 22.8% of the country’s total banking credit, according to figures seen by Business in Cameroon. This is a significant increase of CFA345 billion compared to 2023, when the bank reported CFA1,037 billion in credit, marking a year-on-year growth of 33 percent.

The bank also posted CFA1,557 billion in customer deposits, giving it an 18.6% share of the market. These figures place Afriland First Bank at the top of the national banking sector in terms of both credit and deposit volumes.

One of the bank’s executives noted that Afriland is currently the top institution in Cameroon for factory financing. The bank is also recognized as a pioneer in Islamic finance and a key player in trade financing across Central Africa.

Afriland First Bank was founded in 1987 by Cameroonian businessman Paul Fokam Kammogne under the name Caisse commune d’épargne et d’investissement. Today, it serves over 710,000 clients and operates 89 branches and 231 ATMs across the country.
