Cemac Banks’ Liquidity Needs Hits CFA392.7bn, a Record Since Jan 2025

(Business in Cameroon) – On March 18, the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) injected CFA 230 billion in liquidity into commercial banks across the Cemac region. Despite this, the amount was not enough to meet the banks’ needs.

The nine banks that participated in the operation requested a total of CFA 392.7 billion, the highest liquidity demand in the Cemac zone since the start of 2025.

Experts suggest that this increase in demand could be tied to a rise in bank loan requests. As customer demand for credit outpaces available funds, banks often turn to the central bank or other commercial banks through the interbank market to meet their liquidity needs.
