Cameroon Injects CFA73bn in Co-financed Road Projects in 2024

(Business in Cameroon) – Cameroon’s Jointly Financed Road Projects Unit, part of the Ministry of Public Works, awarded 35 contracts in 2024, totaling CFA72.9 billion, achieving an execution rate of 87.5%. The initial plan had projected 40 contracts, already a sharp drop from the 71 contracts worth CFA317 billion originally expected in a March 2024 steering committee report on road integration and transport facilitation programs.

The unit also revised its annual budget to CFA201 billion, down from the initial CFA289 billion. Of this, CFA130 billion was spent, representing a 64% execution rate. Initially, CFA284 billion had been earmarked for investments and CFA5 billion for operations.

Despite the budget cuts, key projects moved forward. The unit completed 13 studies, including four road studies covering 661 km. More than 193 km of roads were rehabilitated or upgraded, with 95% of scheduled works completed. Savings from various projects helped fund an additional 119 km of municipal roads. The funds also allowed for the expansion of Yaoundé’s northern access road (22 km) and the rehabilitation of the Mora-Tchakamari road in the Far North region.
