(Business in Cameroon) – MTN Cameroon, the telecommunications company, announced that it paid CFA155 billion to the state in taxes, fees, and other payments between January and October 2024. During his visit to Cameroon on December 10-11, Ralph Mupita, CEO of MTN Group, shared that over the past ten years, MTN Cameroon has contributed a total of CFA1,062 billion to state revenues.
The CEO also announced new investments for 2025. MTN plans to spend CFA62 billion to improve and expand its network in Cameroon. This is nearly twice the amount it invested in 2024 to upgrade service quality. This new investment is part of a larger three-year plan worth CFA187 billion. It adds to the CFA540 billion the company says it has already invested to modernize its network across all ten regions of Cameroon.
“We thank the Cameroonian government for creating a good environment for the development of telecommunications. Cameroon is our home, and we are proud to invest here to bring more opportunities to the people,” said Ralph Mupita after meeting with the Prime Minister on December 11.
The visit comes at a time when many users have been complaining about poor network quality. Despite promises from operators to improve service, issues like dropped calls and poor connections have continued for months.
To fix the problem, the government has introduced new measures. The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications has told the main operators, MTN and Orange, to focus on key areas. These include increasing investments in priority zones, improving equipment in strategic locations, making better use of the fiber network provided by Camtel, and improving customer service.
