Cameroon’s Pharma and Chemical Costs Fall Again by June 2024

(Business in Cameroon) – Between April and June 2024, production costs in Cameroon’s pharmaceutical and chemical industries fell by 2.3% year-over-year. This is according to the latest Industrial Producer Price Index (IPPI) report from the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The drop continues the trend from the first quarter of 2024, where a 3.2% decrease was recorded.

However, this decline in production costs for the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors goes against the overall trend in Cameroon’s industrial sector. During the same period, factory gate prices for the broader industrial sector increased. The IPPI shows that by the end of June 2024, overall production costs in all industries rose by 1.6% year-over-year, up from a smaller 0.9% increase in the first quarter.

This general rise in production costs was mainly driven by the wood and wood products industries, which saw a 12% increase. The printing, paper, and cardboard manufacturing industries also contributed, with prices rising by 7%.
