Renowned film director Musing Derrick has highlighted an urgent need for corruption in Cameroon and Africa to be eradicated. He has used his new movie “When The Levees Broke” as a medium to pass the message.
During a press conference on Thursday, August 1, organised ahead of the premiere of the movie in Douala, scheduled for August 3, he said “it is time to change Africa”.
“We have everything, but why should we be the poorest?”

Musing’s intent to deliver the appropriate emotions and message in the 1 hour 30 minute-movie, necessitated a solid actor to play the key role. Popular actress and film producer, Stephanie Tum, perfectly fitted in the role.
The one-character movie talks about a lady who finds herself in a complicated situation involving corruption, but stays steadfast not compromising her values even when her family’s safety is at stake.
“It was so challenging physically, mentally and emotionally” Stephanie Tum said.
“The movie is a very deep and dark movie. There is no moment when the character is happy or excited. So you have to maintain that low energy. So for me as a happy person, it was very draining” the actress said.
“Even when the movie was done, it was very difficult to get out of it” Tum added.
“I had to take time off and just travel, to be able to get back to myself” she said.
The film was shot in Douala in partnership with the Access Bank and the Tecno company. It premieres on Saturday, August 3 at Canal Olympia in the Bessengue neighbourhood in Douala.

Star actor Efa Iwara from Nigeria, is part of the project and will be present for the premiere
From Douala, other locations will be visited including Bamenda in Cameroon, as well as other locations the USA and Canada.
Musing Derrick has over 20 years of experience in the movie industry. As a film director, he said he felt it was the moment to get his voice in the conversation about corruption in Africa.
